Today, 111 public charter schools serve more than 61,000 students across South Carolina and are supported by more than 4,000 teachers. Behind those numbers are school leaders, educators, governing boards, families, and communities working each day to create strong educational opportunities for students.
Operating a public charter school involves responsibilities that extend well beyond the classroom. School leaders must balance academics with enrollment, staffing, governance, compliance, facilities, finance, transportation, athletics, student activities, and long-term planning. In many cases, they are managing these responsibilities within operational and financial structures that differ from those of traditional public schools.
That is one reason the work of the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina matters. The Alliance supports educators, administrators, governing boards, and communities serving charter school students throughout the state through advocacy, education, professional development, resources, and operational support.

Transportation is only one part of operating a school, but it can affect budgets, athletics, student activities, enrollment growth, field trips, and daily operations. Schools may need additional capacity during busy seasons, a temporary vehicle while an owned unit is out of service, or a longer-term alternative to purchasing and maintaining another vehicle.
